How to use GetWeb

Registration code

At first launch of GetWeb, you see the window as shown below

If you are a registered user, type your registration code I provided you and click "OK". Once you enter password, this window will not appear. If you are not a registered user, click "Try". In case of trial use, there is some limitation in using GetWeb.

The main window

Clicking a button let you jump to its explanation.

1.Information field

In this field, you see name of web pages, the date of downloading and the date of modification of the pages. The date of downloading is shown only after downloading the page.

2.List

You can organize your bookmarks in three sets of list. Each list can contain one hundred bookmarks. In case of trial use, only three bookmarks can be applied in.

3.Web browser

You should choose which browser you will use with, Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

4.Edit Lists

You can edit lists and web pages.

Copy web pages from the list to another list.
Edit web pages (Name, URL, Link level,etc.).
Add new pages by typing its URL.

5.Download

Button

Function

Start downloading a web page in the list.
Start downloading all web pages in the list.

6.After downloading

If you want, it is able to close PPP connection, quite GetWeb and shutdown your Macintosh automatically after downloading.

Adding bookmarks

By clicking "Bookmarks" or "Favorite" , the bookmarks of your web browser is shown.


Choose web pages you want to enter into GetWeb, and click "Add page"or "Add all". Then their name is shown in the information window. If you click "URL" button while visiting a page with running web browser, that current URL will be added (Only Netscape Navigator supports this function).

Setting of parameters

Clicking the "Edit URL" button, a window will open as shown below.

"Name" and "URL" are inputted automatically when you enter bookmarks from your web browser.

By clicking the "Folder" button you choose the folder to which downloaded files are saved.

"Link level" means the depth of the stratum in which the links you want to download are. For example: when you choose [1], only the top page will be downloaded*. When you choose [2], the top page plus all pages linked from the top page are downloaded. In the same way, by choosing [3] you get all links derived from linked pages to the top page**.

However, according as this number increases it takes much processing time. To speed up checking, if you know their URLs, you had better download them separately

The links to other web site can be downloaded in the same way. If you do not need to download such pages, you will check "Link level (ex)" [0]. When you choose above [1], the top page and their links are downloaded in the same way described in the preceding sentence.

*: In case the top page is composed multiple windows so-called "flames", choosing [1] may cause trouble in viewing the downloaded pages. You should choose Link level [2] if you want to download only the top page.

**: In the trial version, you can choose up to link level [2].

"File type" should be input with the button or typing with keyboards. You input them as shown below.

[Example 1] *.* -----------------All files will be downloaded.

[Example 2] *.html;*.gif* -----Any HTML files and GIF files will be downloaded

[Example 3] abc*.jpg -------All JPEG files which name start with the letters "abc"(abc01.jpg so on) will be downloaded

It is convenient that you save these data as default value in "Default"opening from the option menu.

If you check "Overwrite", the latest file overwrite existing file.

Getting web pages

When you click "Fetch" or "Fetch(all)", GetWeb opens PPP connection and starts downloading of the web page(s) in the list (unregistered user can use only List [1]). While downloading web pages, the window will appear as shown below.


In this window you see the name of web page, their URL and the number of files not downloaded yet.

If you click the "Skip" (or "Abort") button, GetWeb aborts downloading of the file (or web page) in progress and starts downloading of the next file (or web page).

If you want to abort all downloading process, check the close box in the window.

Downloaded files are saved to the "Download" folder having same structure of original web pages. Log process is saved to "Log information"folder if "Log" is checked in the main window.

By checking corresponded check box, GetWeb can close PPP connection, quite GetWeb and shutdown your Macintosh after downloading all pages.

Viewing web pages

With finishing of downloading, the date of downloading and the date of last modification are indicated in the information window.

If the page has been modified since last downloading, its name will be marked with asterisk. However, modification of their linked page can not be checked so their URL should be entered separately if you want to check it.

To view the downloaded web page, you choose their name in the information window and click the "View" button. Then GetWeb launch your web browser and show you web page. If you checked "Overwrite" in the edit window, the downloaded web page is shown soon, if not, the window appear as shown below. In this window the date of downloading are indicated. So you choose the date and click the "OK" button.

Downloading on appointed hour

Open the "Auto..." from the option menu. In this window you can set when GetWeb download the web pages in each list.

You can choose the day to download, the time to download and frequency (how many times / at every xxx minutes)

GetWeb will open PPP connection and start to download at the appointed hour automatically.

In case you set frequency, quitting GetWeb and doing shutdown will be done after all downloading are completed. Only closing PPP connection is done after every downloading.

Fully automatic downloading

At first, open the Energy Saver in the Control Panels and set the Scheduled Start up.

Next, make the alias of GetWeb and move it to the Startup Items folder. Then ensure that GetWeb launches after other applications in the Startup Items have been launched. If there are applications which startup after GetWeb, your Macintosh may not shutdown after downloading web pages.

By putting a period as the first character of the file name, they will launch before GetWeb.

Example) In case the file "ALA" opens after GetWeb, change its name to ".ALA".

Note:

1) To make sure, you had better to set the Shutdown time in the Control Panels even if you check "Shutdown" in GetWeb.

2) To make sure, you had better to set idle timeout in your PPP connection tool even if you check "PPP close" in GetWeb.

Network

Open "Network..." from the option menu.

You set "Timeout Second" for the case of downloading can’t be done completely.
